So, for those of you who don't know, there is a wildfire burning very near our home. It started yesterday, and is only about a mile from us as the crow flies. Thankfully, it is mostly contained, and the wind has died down, we have overcast conditions today, and it should be safe now.
Phil and Jenn's home was precariously closer, as were MOST of our church members, and the church building itself. If you read the article in the link below, you will see that NO homes were burned, and that is a miracle in itself, because there are so many residents strewn throughout our little community. Jim mentioned this morning on our smokey walk that black spruce trees (they are EVERYWHERE) are the 2nd driest timber in North America.

Tyler got a video on his phone (while waiting in traffic to get home) of a helicopter that was lowering down to get a scoop of water right out of the slough next to the road. Electricity was cut off for about 3-1/2 hours because of the fire retardant drops.
Yes, God is good...He takes care of us is so many ways!

Wow.
You are right, God is so good. I am so thankful that everyone and their homes are ok.

That article made it sound like no one got evacuated, but the people right across from the fire did get evacuated, and they told people like around were Mrs. Laurel lives to be prepared to evacuate if they couldn't get it under control...so it was pretty serious, and there's still smoke and firefighters out there this afternoon when we went to look at it....
Thanks for the update, Kluane. I was pretty concerned about some of those families over there. M and R live right behind where the fire was.
I am VERY thankful the fire didn't jump the road and burn down multiple homes. Love you mom!!
